Sylvaner is more likely to be associated with Franconia these days, but its origins stretch across Germany. It is therefore not uncommon for Sylvaner vineyards to be found sporadically in Rheinhessen. The Battenfeld-Spanier winery is in the fortunate position of being able to fall back on 30-year-old Sylvaner vines. Paired with the philosophy of placing the soil in the foreground and working out the minerality in the wine, the result is a wonderfully drinkable Sylvaner with a long-lasting finish.
The Battenfeld-Spaniard Grüner Sylvaner shows itself in light to golden yellow garments in the glass. The nose is peppered with yellow fruity aromas such as nectarines, yellow peach and ripe pears. The scent is complemented by fresh kitchen herbs, green tea and local meadow flowers, which give the wine a special flavor. The taste is crystal clear, precise and flanked by a bitter phenolics.
The Sylvaner is ideal as an aperitif or with selected starters, such as bread salad with tomatoes and basil or sausage salad with fresh white bread.
