Thanks to its fabulous, reliable quality at an extremely fair price, this wine from the Touraine appellation has become the flagship wine of J. de Villebois. Although it does not come from the much better known, large Loire-growing regions - or perhaps because of it - this Sauvignon Blanc has a large fan base, including among the renowned wine critics.
The single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc was the house's first cuvée, because the grapes come from different locations on the banks of the Cher, a tributary of the Loire. On soils that are characterized by clay and flint, the grapes thrive until the optimal harvest time and develop a unique taste profile. The result is an elegant, multi-layered wine that impresses with a wonderfully mineral, ripe Loire character.
The expressive J. de Villebois Sauvignon Blanc Touraine AOP combines its exotic fruit notes of gooseberry, grapefruit, pineapple and pear with pronounced flinty mineral and smoky tones. The structure of the wine is generous, supple and balanced with rather restrained acidity and a fantastic length. A culinary highlight with oysters, shellfish and local goat cheese from the Loire.
