Who says that first-class Burgundy wines always have to be single-varietal wines? At the Kaiserstuhl: Nobody! In this estate wine (VDP Gutswein), Konrad Salwey combines the two classic grape varieties into a real dream team in the bottle, with Pinot Blanc taking the larger part.
Salwey delivers considerable quality even in the entry-level class, the estate wines are characterized by their distinctive varietal characteristics and their dry, expressive character. In order to achieve this, the two base wines of this cuvée were vinfied differently: The Chardonnay matured in oak to achieve fullness, an almost creamy, melting texture and a certain presence of tannins, the Pinot Blanc, matured in steel tanks, is responsible for the fruity freshness.
The Salwey Weißburgunder & Chardonnay is elegant and vibrant, the winery itself speaks of a "great arc of tension from the typical citrus freshness of the Pinot Blanc to the nutty serenity of the mild Chardonnay". Aromas of pear, pineapple and apple are also noticeable in the seductive fruit bouquet. Served well chilled, this fresh, lively cuvée is the perfect accompaniment to fish or asparagus. The wine is also a perfect everyday pleasure when drunk solo.
