Description
Savanna Dry was launched in May 1996, in a bottle because back then everything was in cans. And all the cider was so sweet, only women were looking at it. So in came the unique dumpy bottle shape to chase after the unique dumpy manly drinker. Drinking beer out of a bottle also became cool in the USA, around this time. The name was dry and like the African savannah, a bit out there somewhere.
The idea of placing a lemon wedge in the neck of the Savanna bottle before drinking belongs to Dale Raines, an Australian who started it at La Med in Clifton, Cape Town while he was training as a barman there.
Savanna Dry is a clear 100% apple cider in a unique see through bottle and made from the fermented juice of typically SA apple cultivars i.e. Granny Smith, Golden delicious, Pink Lady etc. It has an alcohol by vol of 5,5%.
