The "Grey Burgundy" grape, in the English speaking world widely known as Pinot Gris, is one of the varietals that are traditionally grown on the typically limey and chalky soil and in the moderate climate of the Rheinhessen region in Germany. The winery of Schloss Westerhaus in Ingelheim uses especially gentle and sustainable methods of production: Only fully ripe grapes are carefully picked by hand and vinified into characterful and fruity wines.
Elegant Pinot Gris Schloss Westerhaus Ingelheimer Grauer Burgunder trocken shows in the glass a radiant golden yellow. Different batches of the grapes used in this wine are fermented in barrique barrels which gives the wine a powerful volume and a certain ageing potential.
This fresh and tangy Pinot Gris from Schloss Westerhaus shows fine aromas of Williams pear, blood orange and lime. The wine comes across as very clear and lively, at the same time juicy, full-bodied and with a distinctive note of salty minerality. This makes it a sophisticated choice for the dinner table.
